FIRST CLASS OF NEW MASTER'S PROGRAMME IN HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRATIZATION STARTS IN YEREVAN |

On 14 September twenty-two students have officially joined the first class of the new “Regional Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratization in Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine,” supported by the European Union. Eleven of the students come from Armenia, while another eleven have just arrived from Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia.
Regional Master's Programme was established by a grant provided by the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights, the programme is expected to offer students the opportunity to acquire profound knowledge and practical skills in human rights and democratization.

The official inauguration of the first class took place at Yerevan State University’s Academic Council hall on 14 September 2011. During the event the new students were welcomed by the rector of Yerevan State University, prof. A. Simonyan and the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Raul de Luzenberger. Some of the invited guests also welcomed new students. The inauguaration was attended by media.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO PROMOTE COOPERATION BETWEEN ESSEX UNIVERSITY AND YSU CENTER FOR EUROPEAN STUDIES IS SIGNED |

On September 5, 2011 memorandum of understanding was signed to promote co-operation between YSU Centre for European Studies and University of Essex. The Department of History and Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and the Centre for European Studies at Yerevan State University entered into a co-operative arrangement whereby Essex will provide support and advice to CES regarding the quality assurance of the two MA programmes run by the Centre.

TRAINING ON TEACHING FOR QUALITY LEARNING |

On September 1-‐3, 2011 a three-‐day professional development training on Education Quality and Teaching Staff was organized within the framework of partnership between the Centre for European Studies and the University of Essex. The training was developed and held by Professor Rainer Schulze, Director of the Human Rights Centre, University of Essex, and it was particularly designed for the lecturers teaching on the MA in Human Rights and Democratization, and the MA in European Studies. Head of History Department and Partner of the Human Rights Center of the University of Essex, Dr. Rainer Schulze has been invited to visit the Center for European Studies to start close cooperation with the Center as well as to assist with the Regional Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratization as far as teaching method, syllabi, learning outcomes and academic honesty are concerned. On May 28, Dr. Schulze conducted training for lecturers involved in the project to address the above-mentioned issues.

The new EU supported Human Rights and Democratization Master's programme was presented to media
On 26 May 2011 the Centre for European Studies organized a press conference on the commencement of the grant programme on “Regional Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratization in Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine”. This programme is established by the grant provided by the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights. All interested students and media representatives attended the event.

Prof. Rainer Schulze from Essex University visits Armenia to assist with education planning and hold lectures |
Expert visits Armenia to help develop democracy education.
An expert from the University of Essex is to visit Armenia for a week to help develop a new degree programme in human rights and democratisation for four former Soviet republics. Professor Rainer Schulze, Head of the Department of History, will travel to Yerevan State University (YSU), Armenia, on 24 May.

The Centre for European Studies presented its educational programmes during the “Europe Day” fair organized by the European Delegation to Armenia in Lovers’ Park on May 21, 2011. Regional Master's Programme in Human Rights and European Studies Master's Programme were presented to both prospective students and general public. All interested people got chance to ask questions and find out more about educational programmes from the staff.

Armenian-German joint conference on “Human Right in Conflict Management” |

On 17-20 April 2011, with support of YSU Centre for European Studies (CES) and “Robert Bosch” German foundation, YSU Law Faculty member Max Schaub jointly with CES and Law department students organized a conference on “Human Right in Conflict Management.” The conference was attended by the students of the School of International Studies at the University of Dresden.
